Shell Stitch Beanies

This is the perfect spring hat!  So fun to make too.  Read on to see how I made this FREE pattern!

Seriously, this hat is light and airy and beautiful… and fits so well!  It’s great on newborns and adults too.  I’ve made this hat tons of times and have always had a great result.

Here is a link to the free hat pattern from The Dainty Daisy: Shell Stitch Beanie

And this is the flower pattern I used from Very Berry Handmade: A Frothy Flower

For this purple hat, I used a really cool yarn from Loops & Threads called “Capri”.  It’s a 50g ball and I used every last inch of it: size 3-10 (child) with one extra shell row to make it a bit longer.  The texture of this yarn is AMAZING – it’s like a t-shirt yarn, it’s a nylon/polyester/cotton blend.  Unfortunately it’s “hand-wash and lay flat to dry” so it’s not the most practical yarn for a kid’s hat.  But still… it’s gorgeous.  I used a 4.5 mm hook since usually my stitches are a little bit bigger than gauge.

For these 2 hats I used the new Loops & Threads Colorwheel from Michael’s.  These ones are size 1-3 year, made exactly as the pattern but with a few sc2tog on the last row to help it cling to the head.  I used one ball of each colour and ended up with 2 great hats!  I’ve made a few more for people as well recently.  This yarn is perfect for these!  And you can make a ton of flowers.  Also used a 4.5 mm hook for this.

This one was made with Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly in Blue Yonder.  This is a bit lighter yarn (3) so I used a slightly larger hook.  I also added some detail in the inside of the flower.  I’m so happy with the result!
