Mermaids on the Mind

These mermaid tail blankets have been one of the main items I make for people.  I’ve made them for toddlers and for adults!  Check out the free pattern by the talented Nadia Fuad and tons of pics in this post!

The Pattern

This free pattern has been making waves online since it was posted almost 2 years ago.  She’s even got a YouTube video tutorial to help with the blanket decreases.  It’s great because it’s open in the back, so there’s no worry about the little ones getting stuck in it (like some of the pouch-style ones).

I always pick 3 colours to avoid it looking checkerboard, and that allows me to carry the yarn along the sides and sc around at the end, which lets me avoid weaving in hundreds of loose ends!

The Yarn

Every time I’ve used the same yarn and it’s simply perfect for this – Bernat Satin.  It’s soft, has a bit of a sheen and comes in the most amazing colours.  I haven’t found a bad combination yet!  There are also a few shades of Bernat Satin Sparkle that I haven’t tried yet but I bet would be amazing.

I’ve found a 6 mm hook works best.

Photos

Onto the best part… pictures!  I have a whole other blog post filled with pictures too, so check it out: Making a Mermaid Tail Blanket

This one was an adult size, it’s 42″ long which is long enough to fit me!  It used 2x Sea Shell, 2x Flamingo and 3x Sage colourways of the Bernat Satin Solids – 7 balls total.

Happy Crafting!
