Ocean Waves Blanket

So I normally don’t make blankets for people.  They’re beautiful and I love making them, but they just take SO LONG to make!  But when a close friend makes a special request, I will of course make it!  This is to be a gift for a friend’s cousin’s wedding.  They own a boat called ‘Hoot’ so we wanted to come up with something that was water-related and also incorporated the boat name.  Here are some photos and details on this beautiful blanket’s construction!

Materials

  • Bernat Super Value yarn (new packaging) in the following colors:
    • Navy
    • Royal Blue
    • Hot Blue
    • Sky
    • White
  • 6 mm hook
  • Tapestry needle

Pattern Modifications

  • Ch 199 to allow for 13 waves across, double bed size
  • Did 8 full waves for the length
  • This allowed finished dimensions of 60″ wide x 70″ long
  • I created 2 owl appliqués and sewed them in place, pattern is on my blog (here) and added a crochet heart, which I used this pattern for (large size)

Overall this took around 32 hours (half hour per stripe, 4 hours per wave) for the blanket, an hour to weave in ends and 2 hours for the appliqués. So 35ish hours of love!
